The Minister for Discord's Top 5 Cacophonisty places in Lancaster
1. The Friary
This is by far the best pub in Lancaster for atmosphere, architecture, and value. Its special feature is that it is a converted Church with most original features intact. Weekly quizzes are delivered from a lectern, and the opening hours on the hymn boards. They also do Red Guinness and Strawberry and Pear Cider, perfect.
2. Lancaster Castle
Lancaster Castle is still a working prison, but worth a tour. The guides are genuinely creepy, Rocky Horror types who look at home in the dungeons. Best tours are the Dark History Tours which are led by candle light and follow the Pendle witches story. Don't forget to check our 'Headless Lady of Lancaster'.

3. GB Antiques and Furniture Centre
This place is great for props, costumes and weird objects. There are about 5 huge, connected warehouses filled with memorabilia, old stuff, and doodads.
Also once a bull actually escaped into this china shop!

4. Lancaster Theatres
Between the three theatres in Lancaster there is always something Cacophonyesque going on.
a)The Grand Theatre is home to the After Dark Theatre Company which puts on regular murder mysteries, Cluedo style, and just finished a play about a deadly virus ravaging Lancaster where the cast hid out in the theatre itself.
b) Nuffield Theatre is the theatre at Lancaster University and attracts various oddities. My favourite has been a play about one woman's quest to prove the existance of Borrowers.
c) Dukes Theatre Puts on brilliant plays in its theatre and also in the city's main park. Also has a brilliant miniture arts cinema with a gifted film selector.
5. Galgate Fish and Chip Shop
Ok, so its only a chip shop, but its an 'If Carlsberg made Chip Shops' chip shop. Students get free meals between 12.00pm and 12.01pm. And if you turn up at closing time for the price of a bag of chips you can get, sausages, pies, peas, black pudding...... The owner is worth a visit too.
